Klippspik is a machine-made nail with a cone-shaped tip and a flat or semi-round head. The cone-shaped tip allows the nail to be removed without splitting the wood. After straightening, the nail can be reused, unlike modern nails. Klippspik was introduced in the late 1800s and gradually replaced handmade nails. The nail is cut from thick steel plate, hence its name. Generally, the nail can be categorized into the following usage groups.
- 2.5 inch: Ideal for internal use on listers, feeders, and fine joinery
- 3 inch: Suitable for nailing pearlspont panel and similar internal applications. Also for external use on board flooring
- 4 inch: Perfect for board flooring and external use on lock listers
- 5 inch: Great for internal use on floors and similar applications
