The tiny fruit of the Alder trees (Aalnus glutinosa and Alnus incana) has been widely utilized by aquarium hobbyists. As betta and ornamental shrimp and breeders enjoy tannins released into the water by these cones, and their alleged anti fungal and antibacterial properties.
