CHIC & UNUSUAL 1940s' CHOCOLATE BROWN VINTAGE HAT

This is a very chic and unusual 1940s' hat. It is custom made, and consists of a cap adorned with a wide felt band which has been artistically cut so it appears as several twisted strips of felt. It has been attached at both sides of the crown, twisted and attached in the middle of the back with a small felt bow. There are two bakelite tan decorations finishing the look. This hat is very typical of the war era, when supplies were not abundant. The wide felt strip shows slightly uneven coloring, which is not from fading, but original to the felt. There is no brand label, but there is an attached label GENUINE FUR FELT. In excellent vintage condition, lovingly preserved among over 1300 hats we have collected for 40+ years. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Mannequin not for sale.
