DELIGHTFUL 1940s' BROWN FELT HAT WITH GROSGRAIN BOWS, FEATHER SPRAY + VEIL

This is a beautiful look from the 1940s'. The hat consists of a brimless shape folded to project upwards & forward, and is elongated towards the back. At each side there are matching brown grosgrain bows. The back of the crown is adorned with beautiful fall colored feathers. The hat is covered with a matching brown veil that is attached to the inside, so it does not cover the face. The veil is tied at the back, cascading down.The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
