Overview: Up for sale is an incredible and somewhat disturbing piece of outsider art by Palm Beach, Florida artist, Alfonso DeVito, an eccentric artist who painted on any available surface. This piece (as well as the other paintings I have by this artist) all came out of the artist's estate. When I first saw this piece, all I could make out was an obliquely nude woman. The piece, however, is titled en verso, "Hate R*** of Rebecca," suggesting something more violent and graphic. I'm not sure if this refers to a biblical, mythological or historic event or is simply something envisioned by the artist. It is signed by DeVito en verso and dated 1993. Painting is unframed.
Condition: The painting is in very good condition. Minor scuffing. Some stray brushstrokes as well, but I believe that was intentional to add to the expressionist style.
Painting measures 24 inches high x 18 inches wide.
