Antique Chinese lantern (estimated 1930-1940) made from gauze that is hand painted with decorative symbols of good fortune and happiness. The lantern is adorned with an aqua tassel.
This particular lantern is golden which appears to be from the varnish that seals the gauze. The frame is made of wire and the ends are wooden. This lantern is designed to fold down flat.
As this is handmade and very old please be mindful that there are some imperfections. The paint can be prone to cracking as shown so needs to be handled carefully. There are no tears or holes in the gauze wrap.
The images painted on the lantern carry rich symbolic meanings deeply rooted in East Asian culture, designed to convey wishes for good fortune, prosperity, and happiness.
