Art Combe's Ancient Watermelon is an heirloom variety rediscovered in the 1920s by Art Combe, who found a pouch of red seeds in an Arizona cave. These seeds, believed to be hundreds or even thousands of years old, were from a watermelon with a distinctive neck, similar to a crooked neck squash. The melon has sweet, red flesh and is known for its red seeds. Some melons will be oval in shape while some may develop with a ‘neck.’
