The Biodiversity Kit includes a hexagonal BeeingHotel, pollinator-friendly seeds, and an e-book about bees. Designed to shelter other pollinators like mason bees, which don't produce honey or have a rigid sting, this kit helps create habitats for solitary bees and supports pollinator corridors in habitats affected by deforestation and urbanization. The kit includes a BeeingHotel, seeds suitable for pollinators, and an e-book about bees. Delivery in Italy is free and takes 2 working days. The BeeingHotel should be placed out of direct sunlight and rain. When planting seeds, follow the instructions on the packet for optimal germination. Mason bees are self-sufficient, and the BeeingHotel requires no special care if protected from rain. The hexagonal nest is designed to house native solitary bees that nest and help create pollinator corridors in habitats affected by deforestation and urbanization. A mix of long-blooming flowers is included, selected for the well-being of bees and pollinating insects. An e-book with interesting facts about bees is also included, suitable for children. The BeeingHotel provides space and encourages various pollinator species to inhabit your garden, besides European honeybees, there are many solitary bees seeking a cozy home to nest. Different types of pollinators require different types of homes. Cavity-nesting bees use hollow plant stems or wood holes to lay their eggs. These solitary bees have no queens or workers and don't store honey in their small nests. Additionally, some species like to hibernate during winter and seek protected spaces with vegetable material as insulation. The BeeingHotel aims to replicate these ideal nesting conditions, supporting these incredible insects while your garden benefits from their stay. Not all species nest in a pollinator house like this. There are many other ways to help solitary nests. That's why the kit also includes a mix of bee-friendly flower seeds to create the ideal habitat for pollinators in your garden. The BeeingHotel has a depth of 12 cm, an ideal length to ensure the reproductive success of solitary bees and protect them from weather and pests. The nest/refuge should be protected from wind and excessive moisture. Although the roof is treated to insulate the refuge from rain, it's preferable to place it out of the rain, under a canopy, a slope, an overhang, or any other coverage. Expose the nest/refuge to the southeast; other exposures may compromise its functionality due to reduced heating of the accommodation. Place the nest/refuge at a minimum height of 1.5 meters, either on a tree or a simple post strong enough to hold the structure firmly and without vegetation in front that could hide or obstruct the entrance to the small tunnels. Secure the nest/refuge firmly to prevent it from being shaken or knocked over by the wind. It's essential to place artificial nests/refuges in areas with permanent nectar-bearing flowers. That's why the kit includes a packet of bee flower mix. This is a mix of meliferous plants to achieve a beautiful aromatic multicolored garden. By planting this biodiversity of plants with their prolonged blooming, you contribute to safeguarding domestic and wild bees, butterflies, and insects. After planting, keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. This is a fun and educational activity for the whole family. An engaging e-book about bees is also included, suitable for children. It reveals many curiosities about the mechanisms that govern the swarm as a superorganism, the properties and types of honey and hive products, and modern apiculture. Discover what happens inside the hive and the role of bees in the Earth's ecosystem. You'll fall in love with these precious insects even more. The Biodiversity Kit includes a BeeingHotel, pollinator seeds, and an e-book about bees. Why help pollinators? Bees are vital to our ecosystem, but other pollinators like bees, bumblebees, and other insects also actively contribute to flower pollination. By carrying the pollination kit, you provide these friends with a comfortable home and the opportunity to plant seeds of plants that actively contribute to bee health. Installation questions: What is the best location to install the BeeingHotel? Spring for solitary bees and late summer to early fall for overwintering insects. Is it a challenge? The BeeingHotel is completely autonomous. The pollinators that can live inside are self-sufficient in their food search and don't require our intervention. How to recognize if the BeeingHotel has been occupied? And what to do if the nest is not used by insects? Check if the entrance holes are closed with a mixture of earth that insects use to host the eggs they have laid in the cracks, which will complete their development in the following months. If, despite all the care, the artificial nest/refuge is not visited by any guests, usually because it's too rare in the environment, it may be appropriate to make some captures for a first activation. How? In the appropriate season (spring for solitary bees and late summer to early fall for overwintering bees), place the nest/refuge in a more suitable location (a quiet corner in a greener area with more biodiversity, the garden, or the orchard with the presence of nectar-bearing plants). After a few weeks, the nest/refuge, which should have been colonized by insects in the meantime, is recovered and transported to the area to be colonized, so they can spread with the new reproduction season. Is it dangerous? Normally, the BeeingHotel is inhabited by non-aggressive mason bees. Therefore, you can observe these insects safely from very close up. In the case of the mason bee, only female bees have a small sting that they almost never use; their sting is very rare and not painful. Can it be used in the city? Of course, cities like Bologna, Rome, Turin, Milan are perfect for installing a BeeingHotel. When will it be shipped? Your order will usually be processed within 3 to 4 days. Can I move the BeeingHotel? It depends on the stage of the year you are in. In the spring, if the BeeingHotel is already populated, it's best not to move it to avoid disorienting the insects. For the rest of the year, there's no problem; you can safely move the BeeHotel to a new location.
