Mid century export ware

During the mid-20th century, it was common for Western companies to import undecorated porcelain blanks from countries like Japan, where labor costs were lower. These blanks would then be hand-painted or decorated in Japan before being exported back to the West for sale. This practice allowed Western companies to offer affordable, decorative porcelain items in the Japanese style without the expense of domestic production.

The "Wales China" marking on one of the plates suggests a British origin for the blank porcelain. The "Mabe in Japan" mark on the middle plate indicates a Japanese manufacturer producing decorative items for export. The "Made in Japan" stamp on the vase is a common indicator of export-oriented production during this period.

These pieces, while decorative and visually appealing, are not considered high-end antiques due to their mass-produced nature and mixed origins. However, they can still hold value as collectible examples of mid-century export ware.
