Produced by 10cc's Graham Gouldman, Gilbert's seventh album is characterized by witty and inventive production and heartfelt songs. The early 1980 's was a hectic time for Gilbert O'Sullivan. The writer, whose songs in the '70 's had sometimes expressed a temperate skepticism about marriage, married his long-term girlfriend Aase in a January 1980 ceremony most of his friends and family knew nothing about. In the background was Gilbert's on-going legal fight for a promised interest in his songs from former manager Gordon Mills which was heading to the law courts. Recorded against a backdrop of personal upheaval and legal wrangling, Life & Rhymes is one of O'Sullivan's most revealing and intimate statements. This re-mastered version boasts two non-album bonus tracks. Salvo.
