This rare, vintage Barlow solid brass and resin Scrimshaw Paperweight features the racing yacht “America”. It commemorates the yacht’s historic win of the initial Americas Cup race in 1851 with the etching of the yacht and the words “America - 1851”.
The scrimshaw art work is by Stephen Barlow, renowned etcher, who produced numerous nautical and wildlife themed scrimshawed items. This paperweight is difficult to find and is sought after by sailors, boaters, and lovers of maritime history.
The paperweight is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 3/4 inch tall. It weighs 14.2 ounces. There is a green felt bottom.
