Spineless Prickly Pear, 20 pads 5-8" tall


Shipped as rootless cuttings. Each cutting can become a cactus tree 20'+ high. This is an arborescent cactus and grows fairly quickly, especially if you water it often. It can be drought tolerant, but if you irrigate often, it just grows faster.


Cold tolerant to at least 18F, and can withstand slight snow and frost. I dryfarm it off 2 to 3" of rain in the mojave desert, and it takes a lot of high winds and extreme temperatures. Very strong cactus. Doesn't have spines like your normal cactus. You can handle these with ease, but they do have super small spines sometimes, so I still use gloves.


Produces edible flowers, pads, and fruit every year & produces lots of new pads. Easy to grill and eat or you can eat it diced up with lots of recipes. Pads taste very good, not very sour at all. I believe this cactus is spineless burbank, a cultivar developed in CA a long time ago but unsure, regardless it's a great spineless cultivar of opuntia.
