The Synology RX1217RP is a 12-bay expansion chassis that attaches to your existing RackStation and adds immediate storage without forcing any downtime. Connecting with the supplied Infiniband cable, it appears inside Synology DiskStation Manager as if the bays were built into the original server, so you can start creating or extending volumes right away.
The enclosure accepts both 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch drives, giving you the freedom to mix large-capacity hard disks with fast solid-state media. Each tray is hot swappable, allowing you to add or replace drives while users continue to work and services stay online.
For round-the-clock reliability, Synology equips the RX1217RP with two 500 W power supplies that back each other up. If one supply fails, the second keeps everything running, protecting your data and avoiding unexpected shutdowns. The unit powers on and off in sync with the host RackStation, so once it is installed, daily operation is hands-off.
