Winding houses can be found primarily in Lausitz (Germany) as well as in Lower Silesia (Poland) and Northern Bohemia (Czech Republic). There are also scattered examples of these unusual wooden structures in Vogtland northern and western Saxony and eastern Thüringia. Winding houses belonged mainly to linen weavers forestry and factory workers small farmers and craftsmen.
