This WWII-era U.S. Army Air Forces Type A-4 “Dead Reckoning" navigation case was purchased at an estate auction, and upon acquiring it, I discovered a collection of original 1964 newspaper clippings inside covering the death of General Douglas MacArthur.
Case: Leather navigation briefcase marked CASE, NAVIGATION, DEAD RECKONING, TYPE A-4 with specification and order numbers embossed. Features leather handle, buckled straps, and brass clasp. Measures approx. 16.5" x 11.5". Shows expected wear from age and use but remains solid and intact.
Contents: A group of original 1964 clippings from multiple newspapers reporting on General Douglas MacArthur’s passing, tributes, funeral, and career retrospectives. Pages show yellowing and fragility typical of 60-year-old newsprint, but remain legible.
This is a unique find that combines a WWII militaria collectible with contemporary ephemera related to one of America’s most iconic generals.
