I made this immediately because I received a new, extremely valuable wood.

Among Yakusugi cedar, the "precious part" is known as the burl (瘤, kobu).
This is the part of the tree with a burl-like swelling on the surface, which forms on Yakusugi cedar trees that are over a thousand years old.
The wood grain is very complex and beautiful, and it tends to have a figure (杢, moku), making it highly valued for ornaments and crafts.

I made this from that precious wood, which I negotiated for years to obtain.

Although made from the same wood, the patterns are different for each pen, making each one a unique, one-of-a-kind pen in the world.
